What your best salesperson does that your website doesn't

An AI sales assistant is software that talks to shoppers on your website the way a good salesperson talks to them in a shop. It answers product questions, asks what the shopper needs, recommends what fits, suggests what goes with it and helps them check out. The standard worth copying is your best salesperson, and most websites don't come close.

A product page answers the questions you thought of when you wrote it. A salesperson answers the one the shopper has right now, and that's usually where the sale gets decided.

Salespeople matter most once the shopper is deciding

The best data on this comes from shops. In a 2016 survey of 600 US shoppers, run for Mindtree, only 2% said a conversation with a sales associate started them thinking about a purchase. The associate's influence came later, once they were gathering information and choosing, and 84% rated associates very helpful for product information.

Shoppers who talked to an associate were 43% more likely to buy, and their transactions were worth 81% more on average ($591 against $326). That's a correlation from an industry-sponsored survey, and people who seek out staff are often closer to buying already. Still, it points to where help pays off. It's the moment someone is weighing two options, and a website usually leaves them alone right then.

Five habits worth copying

Your best salesperson waits until you need something, then turns up when you pick a product up and frown at the label.

Then comes one good question. "What will you use it for?" or "What do you have at home?" turns a vague request into a short list.

Knowing the stock matters more than charm: what fits whom, and which product customers keep bringing back.

When they suggest something extra, it's one thing, with a reason: the case that fits the phone, the filter the jug needs. A single item with a reason reads as advice; a list reads as a sales target.

And they know when to get the manager. A refund dispute or a big order goes to a person, and the shopper doesn't have to argue for it.

How Agentmatica works your shop floor

A shopper on a hiking boot page types "are these OK for wet weather? I have wide feet." Agentmatica answers from your product page and catalog, and cites the page it used. It shows the boots that fit the question as product cards and asks which size they need. Once they pick, it adds the right variant to the cart and hands over a checkout link on a connected Shopify or WooCommerce store.

If your Sales notes say waterproof boots go with your wool socks, the agent can suggest the socks when it helps the shopper. Its sales coaching, on by default for stores, tells it to work out what the shopper needs and to suggest one complementary item when it helps. The same coaching tells it never to be pushy and to keep replies to a few short sentences.

When a conversation needs you, you can read it live, send the agent a private note on how to handle it, or take over the chat and hand it back when you're done.

Let shoppers know it's an AI

Shoppers want to know who they're talking to. In Salesforce's 2024 State of the AI Connected Customer survey of 15,015 adults, nearly 75% said they want to know when they're talking to an AI agent, and 45% said a clear way to reach a person makes them more likely to use one. Agentmatica's chat header says AI assistant by default, and when a shopper asks for a person, the agent hands the chat to your team.

Start with your most-asked product question

Pick the product that gets the most questions, read the last ten your team answered, and check the page answers them. Then connect the agent, ask it those ten questions on the Test your chat page in your dashboard, and fix whatever it gets wrong before it goes live.

Agentmatica isn't the right fit if you need carts built on a site that isn't Shopify or WooCommerce. On other sites it answers and shows products from your pages, and the shopper buys through your own pages.

Questions store owners ask

What is an AI sales assistant?

An AI sales assistant is a chat agent on your store that helps shoppers buy. It answers product questions from your pages and catalog, recommends products that fit what the shopper said, suggests complementary items and, on connected stores, adds items to the cart and shares a checkout link.

Can an AI sales assistant replace my sales staff?

It covers the product questions shoppers ask on your website when nobody on your team is watching the chat. Your team still handles what needs judgment, and with Agentmatica they can coach the agent privately or take over a conversation at any point.

Will an AI sales assistant be pushy?

It shouldn't be. Agentmatica's sales coaching tells the agent never to be pushy and to suggest one complementary item only when it helps the shopper. Proactive messages are capped per page and per visit, and you can switch each one off.
