Why your Gorgias AI bill jumps after Black Friday, and how to budget for it

A Gorgias bill grows after Black Friday because AI Agent is priced per automated interaction, and each automated interaction is also a helpdesk ticket. November brings more tickets, and if you've spent the autumn tuning AI Agent, it resolves a bigger share of them. Both counts rise in the same month, and whatever goes past your plan's allowance is billed at the overage rate.
A question we keep seeing in search puts it like this: "Gorgias AI Agent charges per automated interaction on top of our helpdesk tickets. Which AI agents work with Gorgias and cost less overall?" Below is how the two fees stack, a way to estimate your November bill now, and the questions to ask about any other tool's pricing.
How Gorgias bills tickets and AI Agent
Gorgias charges a ticket fee on any ticket with at least one message sent from the helpdesk, whether a person, AI Agent or a Rule sent it. If you subscribe to AI Agent, an automation fee applies when AI Agent resolves a ticket without handing it to a human. Gorgias counts an interaction as automated when the customer doesn't need a human agent within 72 hours, and Flows, Order Management and Article Recommendations can trigger the fee too.
A chat that AI Agent closes on its own is billed twice, once as a ticket and once as an automated interaction. A chat it hands to your team is billed as a ticket only. That's why the bill follows your resolution rate: the better AI Agent does, the more of your tickets carry both fees.
On monthly billing, the Gorgias pricing page lists these plans with AI Agent added: Starter at $40 for 50 tickets and 30 automated interactions, Basic at $90 for 300 and 30, Pro at $550 for 2,000 and 190, and Advanced at $1,430 for 5,000 and 530. Extra tickets cost $0.40 each on Starter and Basic and $0.36 on Pro and Advanced. Every plan charges $1.50 per automated interaction past its allowance. We couldn't find a spending cap on the pricing page or in the billing guide; for stores that keep going over, Gorgias suggests upgrading to a plan that fits the usage.
Why the jump shows up after the sale
Gorgias counts usage against a monthly allowance, and the example in its billing guide adds the overage to the bill at the end of the month. Black Friday 2026 is on 27 November and Cyber Monday on the 30th, so the cost of the weekend reaches you after the sale is over.
The questions don't stop on Monday. Order-status questions usually keep coming into December while parcels are in transit, and returns and gift exchanges follow, so the month after can run high as well.
The overage rate is also higher than the bundled rate. Pro includes 190 automated interactions in its $190 AI Agent share, which is $1.00 each. From the 191st, each one costs $1.50.
Estimate your November bill before it arrives
You need four numbers: the tickets and automated interactions your plan includes, its overage rates (on the Billing & usage page in Gorgias, or the pricing page), the ticket count you expect for November, and the share of tickets that AI Agent and your Flows resolve without a person. Last November's ticket count is a sensible starting point, adjusted for how much you've grown since.
Then it's two lines of arithmetic. Ticket overage is your expected tickets minus the included tickets, times your per-ticket rate. Automation overage is your expected tickets times your automation rate, minus the included interactions, times $1.50. AI-resolved tickets are already inside the ticket count, so don't add them twice.
Here it is with round numbers we made up, so swap in your own. A store on Pro, billed monthly, expects 3,500 tickets in November, and AI Agent resolves 30 percent of them. That's 1,500 tickets over the allowance at $0.36, or $540. It's also 1,050 automated interactions, 860 of them past the allowance at $1.50, or $1,290. With the $550 plan fee, November comes to about $2,380.
Run it again at a higher automation rate, because that rate often climbs as you add guidance before peak. On 3,500 tickets, every extra 10 points of automation is 350 more interactions, or $525 at the overage rate. If the result is more than you planned for, there's still time to price the next plan up with the same numbers, or to choose which channels AI Agent works on before the month starts.
Pricing models to compare
Every AI agent for ecommerce support meters something, and the meter decides what a busy month costs. Per resolution, or per automated interaction as Gorgias calls it, charges for each conversation the AI closes. That's a fair way for a vendor to show the AI works, and it means your bill rises with your resolution rate. Per conversation or per session charges for every chat the AI takes part in, resolved or not, so the bill follows your traffic. Per seat charges for the people on your team and is usually billed apart from the AI. A reply allowance charges for the messages the agent sends, so a long back-and-forth costs more than a one-line answer, and the outcome of the chat doesn't change the price.
Whichever tool you look at, ask the same things. What counts as one billable unit? Can one conversation be billed twice? What does a unit cost past the allowance, compared with inside it? Is there a monthly cap, and what do shoppers see when you reach it? Does handing a chat to a person cost more or less than letting the AI finish it?
Where Agentmatica fits next to Gorgias
Agentmatica is the sales and support agent in your website chat. It doesn't run inside Gorgias. It takes the place of the chat on your storefront, and you can keep Gorgias for email, SMS, social and phone. Chats that Agentmatica answers don't become Gorgias tickets, so they add no ticket or automation fees there.
When a chat needs a person, you can take it over from Agentmatica's live inbox and hand it back when you're done. Alerts go to Slack, Telegram or email, and conversations can go to Zendesk as tickets. A native Gorgias integration is on our roadmap. Until it ships, you can send escalated chats to Gorgias with the outbound webhook, through Zapier or Make, and they're billed like any other Gorgias ticket once your team replies from the helpdesk.
The same agent sells. A shopper asks whether the merino or the fleece is warmer for winter hiking. The agent answers from your product pages, shows both as cards, and on Shopify or WooCommerce adds the one they pick to the cart and shares a checkout link. When your pages don't cover a question, it says it doesn't know and your team gets the chat.
Agentmatica prices by replies, the answers the shopper sees. Free has 100 a month, Starter is $29 for 1,000, Growth is $79 for 3,000 and Scale is $199 for 10,000. There are no seats and no fee per resolution, so a conversation costs the same whether the agent finishes it or hands it over. There is overage. Past the allowance, extra replies cost $5 per 100, and the extra charge in a month is capped at your plan's own price. If we bill you directly, that's Surge Protection, a switch you turn on in billing settings; with it off, the agent stops at the limit and shoppers see a contact form until the next cycle. On paid plans billed through Shopify, the extra replies are part of the plan and charged through Shopify usage billing. The Free plan has no overage.
Put the same 3,500 November tickets against replies. If 1,000 of those questions start in your website chat and each takes four replies, that's 4,000 replies: Scale at $199, or Growth at $79 plus 1,000 extra replies for $50. Your own replies per chat will differ, so check a week of transcripts before you pick a plan.
Agentmatica isn't the right fit if you want one AI agent across email, SMS and voice tickets. That's what a helpdesk like Gorgias is built for, and running both, with Agentmatica on the website, is a reasonable setup.
What to do this week
Open Billing & usage in Gorgias and write down your included tickets, included interactions and overage rates. Run the two lines above at your current automation rate and at 10 points higher. Then price the website chat on a reply allowance and compare the two before 27 November, while you can still change plans.
Questions store owners ask
Why did our Gorgias AI bill jump after Black Friday?
Gorgias bills AI Agent per automated interaction, and each one also counts as a helpdesk ticket. Peak weeks bring more tickets, and AI Agent often resolves a bigger share of them, so both counts rise at once. Anything past your plan's allowance is charged at the overage rate, $1.50 per automated interaction on every plan, and the example in Gorgias's billing guide adds overage at the end of the month.
Does Gorgias charge for a ticket and an automated interaction on the same conversation?
Yes, when AI Agent resolves the ticket without handing it to a human. Gorgias's billing guide says one ticket can count toward both your helpdesk tickets and your automated interactions. If AI Agent hands the conversation to your team, only the ticket fee applies.
How do I estimate my Gorgias AI Agent bill before peak season?
Take your expected ticket count, multiply it by the share AI Agent resolves, subtract your plan's included interactions, and multiply what's left by $1.50. Do the same for tickets with your per-ticket overage rate, then add the plan fee. Run it at a higher automation rate too, because the rate often rises as you tune AI Agent.
Which AI agents work with Gorgias without charging more for a higher resolution rate?
Look for a meter that doesn't count outcomes, such as replies or conversations, and check what it charges past the allowance. Agentmatica runs as your website chat next to Gorgias and prices by replies, so a resolved chat costs the same as one handed to your team. It has overage of $5 per 100 extra replies, capped at your plan's price each month.
Does Agentmatica work inside Gorgias?
No. Agentmatica is the chat on your website, and you can keep Gorgias for email, SMS and other channels. A native Gorgias integration is on our roadmap; until then, escalated chats can reach Gorgias through the outbound webhook with Zapier or Make.
The same price whether the agent resolves or hands over
Agentmatica answers and sells in your website chat for a monthly reply allowance, from $29 for 1,000 replies, and works next to Gorgias for email. Start on the Free plan and try it on your own questions before it goes live.
